HEALTH AT EVERY SIZE
So the HAES movement is really picking up and I think embodies what I think I want to see for myself. HAES has three main points
1. Accepting and respecting the natural variations of body size and shape.
2. Eating in a flexible manner that values flexible eating and internal cues of hunger, satiation, and appetite
3. Finding the joy in moving one’s body and becoming more physical.
It is difficult to create a dialogue about health in the fat community because we have become living antagonists of health.
I believe that the HAES movement puts into words what I seek for my body, but may not fit the ideals of every person in our community (and that’s okay!)
Putting a focus on eating for pleasure and satiation instead of one or the other and taking weight away from the health dialogue is good for us all.
